I was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, attended St. Peter’s College as a boarding student at 14 and ended up joining the Benedictine monastery there and becoming a priest. After seventeen years as a monk and ten as a priest, I left in 1968 to marry and become a family man. Most of my career was in teaching in a variety of settings, mostly college and high school. I have written an enormous number of newspaper and magazine articles. I have also done a lot of carving, mostly in wood. I have degrees in philosophy, history and education in addition to the study of languages and art. I retired to Victoria in 2000. I have two daughters, Theresa and Jennifer. My first wife, Ruth, died in 2001. I have a new partner since 2003, Sharon.
